What are the pros and cons of teaching (elementary) in a PUBLIC (district), PRIVATE, and CHARTER?
Salary?
Benefits?
Everything else?
If you are going to teach...
Public schools pay better and have better benefits. The most important benefit that public schools have that private schools do not have is state retirement. Retirement isn't such a big deal when you are starting out, but when you are ready to quit teaching retirement is HUGE!
Private schools generally have better support from parents and students are more motivated and better behaved.
Many teachers start off in private schools (esp. Catholic) and then later switch to public schools for retirement benefits, then go back to private schools after they retire. This is a fairly common practice in my state.
It would be nice if money wasn't ever a motivating factor, but we all have bills to pay.
