Jig Heads

Well people, now that winter is nearly over and the ice is most lakes, ponds, rivers and streams all we need to do is wait to see the crappie spawn to catch some great spring crappie slab. Wrong! You are missing some of the most amazing spring fishing crappie. The fishing pressure is light, because the weather is still very cold. If you can tolerate some very bad weather you will experience some of the most amazing fishing spring crappie.
After ice out it is time to go out and start fishing crappie spring. The crappie are still in deep water but will start their movement in the waiting areas near their spawning beds. It will be hungry and feeding in Ernest. The water is extremely cold, so you have to use a very slow bait presentation. The trick is being able to locate the fish, there are some fundamentals that need to be aware that finding the big slab pre-spawn crappie spring. Oh, you do not have to be in the lake at first light well. It has been my experience, the afternoon is better this time of year because there is some warming the sun and the types of fish feeding on bait fish moving more in the afternoon.
A good place to start your fishing for spring is in the last places Ice fishermen were catching fish. If you do not contact ice fish ice fishermen and their fishing sites known before. The fish will be holding in these places right after ice out. If the lake is shallow, the head of the deeper boat channels around your lake, the fish look here. In lakes deep head to reduce cracks and channels feeding off the lake, the crappie spring is there. I rivers head for channels that feed the river main.
When fishing in cold water I prefer ultra light equipment. When fishing for spring cut likely to be very light. You must be able to feel the bite of catching fish Use 2 pounds of test and a open face reel and a graphite rod with a good tip. If you are breaking the line and hooks a movement much to 4-pound fluorocarbon .. I recommend you use 1/32oz or 1/16oz heads template with eyes painted on them. The color of the template of the head can too, but my preference is pale green or pink. with split tail plastic tubes. with some glitter color. My preference is to use colored tubes with some glitter color on them for clear water. In murky water use white or yellow. If the water is real muddy use chartreuse.
If you use these tips you will succeed. By taking a type of giant fish on the slab of early spring there is no better feeling. Well good luck with your fishing crappie in the spring.
