Bass fishing in clear water?
I fish in California
I fish in Dixon lake
The water is very clear and i just found out it's illegal to use native sculpins and sunfish as bait.
i fish from 6:00 am to 11:00 am
From what i've hear ealier people have suggested me going after these picky bass with reaction lures such as buzz baits and poppers.
Should i only use buz-baits and popper when it's windy?
and what lure do you think is most effective in clear water?
Are plastic swimbaits any good?
P.S. bass do not go after nightcrawlers or plastic worms at dixons.
Try the Yum Dinger or Yamamoto Yamasenko. I have found that they work everywhere. You can either wacky rigg it or texas rig. They will both work wonders but texas rigging is more promising. If Dixon lake is really clear, try ones that have darker colors like black, blues, and reds.
The swinbait might work ok but they are not always promising.
The best time to use a popper or buzz bait if right before, at, and shortly after sunrise. I would prefer it in calmer water but the buzz bait will work if it is windy...NOT the popper.
Rapalas are another great choice. Fish them just into the weed line and when it gets hung up in the weeds jerk it out and will cause a reaction strike. This is a great technique. I would use line of about 15 lb test or more for this though.
